FuelBox
– going beyond a
conversation starter

It was the great conversations that brought them together. During the first few years their natural curiosity for each other made them sit up and talk for hours. They talked about everything! Then came child number three and four and she noticed that their exploring and engaging questions for each other were replaced with lying exhausted on their sofa in front of the TV and preferably with their cell phones in their hands…

She missed their conversations. How they made them laugh and learn new things about each other – how they made them connect…
But she found it difficult to come up with new questions, and even found it hard to ask the questions she really wanted to ask to start the conversations that she, or they, really needed to have.

She missed their conversations. How they made them laugh and learn new things about each other – how they made them connect…

She began to write questions down as they came to mind at all hours of the day, and she put them in an envelope. This envelope was quite full when she, with a bottle of wine, presented it to her husband one night. They started to randomly pick questions and ended up talking for hours, just like in their first years. She knew right away that she had something in her hands that all couples out there could enjoy and even benefit from.

She decided there and then to take a break from her teaching job and explore how she could bring these great conversations to the world.
One year later in November 2013, FuelBox COUPLES was launched and quickly became a success in her home country, Norway.

From her experience in working with people development in the pharmaceutical industry for many years, the founder of FuelBox – The Box of Great Conversations, Berta Lende Røed, knew that it’s not only in a couple’s relationship we need to feel seen, heard, valued, and that we really belong, but that this is a fundamental need all of us have in all of the arenas that we find ourselves; at home, in school and not the least in the workplace.

We need to feel seen, heard, valued, and that we really belong.

So, what started with her missing the great conversations that she used to have with her husband, has now, five years later, developed into a whole concept and many different versions of FuelBox that you can find in thousands of homes, schools, institutions, hotels and workplaces in many countries!

Berta  and her partner Tonje Flack are on a mission to fuel the world with great conversations

All humans have a fundamental need to be seen, heard and valued. From neuroscience we know that sharing face to face on a personal level triumphs everything when it comes to creating deep connections with others. In the workplace these connections are crucial to create the psychologcal safety neccessary for high performing teams and for innovation to happen. In our schools the same dynamics have to be present so that our kids will learn and thrive. In our personal life connections with others is the reason for our existence.

Sharing our personal stories with each other creates presence, understanding, recognition, tolerance, respect, trust, belonging – yes even love! And if there is something we need more of, in our homes, schools, organisations and in the world, we believe that it is deep connections and strong relationships!
